Software Features

The cloud backup process involves encrypting data and securely transmitting it over the internet to offsite servers, protecting your organization's data from local threats such as fires, floods, hardware failures, user errors, and the increasingly prevalent ransomware. The initial upload speed depends on the volume of your data, how it's compressed, and, crucially, the speed of your internet connection. The free snapshot service allows large initial backups to be sent to an encrypted USB hard drive, which can be directly imported into the storage server.

To get started with BackupVault ESE, simply install the software on your PC or server, configure your backup settings, and let the software handle the rest. Its user-friendly interface makes it easy to manage your backups, view reports, and restore data when needed.

Security and Compliance

BackupVault ESE prioritizes security and reliability, offering dual-layer encryption to ensure that only you can access your data. It now complies with GDPR, and all data is encrypted using 256-bit AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) before leaving your PC/server. The encryption key is known only to you, making it impossible to load the backup content without the correct key – even for BackupVault employees. Always remember your encryption key; without it, we cannot restore your data!

Connectivity and Migration

The backup software connects to our backup servers via Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) over the internet. This encryption method is the same as that used for all online banking transactions. Once authorized, encrypted data is securely transmitted to our storage servers over the internet.

Data Center Physical Security

BackupVault ESE utilizes two state-of-the-art data centers provided by Equinix (Slough) and Amito (Reading) in the UK. Both data centers offer the highest level of physical security, including 24-hour surveillance, biometric access, and password-protected entry restricted to authorized personnel. They also feature fully redundant, automatic fire suppression systems, N+1 redundant batteries and backup generators, and N+1 redundant air conditioning. Unlike many other providers, our servers are located in the UK, keeping your data beyond the reach of the US Patriot Act, which allows the US government to access your data without warrant or restraint. In short, your data is both secure and safe.
